State of the Superintendency
The number of superintendents nationwide identifying as non-white increased modestly over the past 10 years.
According to annual surveys conducted by in 2012 and 2022, the number of Black superintendents moved from 2.6 percent to 4.4 percent while the number of Hispanic/Latino superintendents increased from 1.9 percent to 3.1 percent over that period.
The 2012 and 2022 surveys attracted 1,239 and 1,776 respondents, respectively.
