Alexandria, Va. – April 3, 2025 LaTonya Goffney, superintendent of the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas, was voted as the 2025-26 president-elect of AASA, , the nation’s premier organization representing more than 13,000 school system leaders nationwide.

Goffney was named the superintendent of Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas in 2018 after serving in a similar role with the Lufkin Independent School District in Lufkin, Texas for five years.

“My experience as a superintendent in rural, suburban, and urban districts has provided me with diverse insights into the unique challenges and opportunities schools face,” Goffney said. “As president-elect, I will champion public education, leading with optimism, courage, and hope, while uniting educational leaders from all districts across the country – small, midsize, and large; rural, suburban, and urban – to ensure every child graduates with choices and opportunities. Together, we will foster resilience, innovation, and collaboration to strengthen public schools.”

Goffney joined in 2013 and currently serves as a member of the organization’s executive committee. She has been a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators since 2008 and served as its President from 2023-24.

“Superintendent Goffney provides strong, future-driven leadership for her district and demonstrates a tireless commitment to the transformative power of public education by shaping opportunities for all students,” David R. Schuler, executive director, said. “I look forward to working closely with LaTonya in her new role as president-elect to forge brighter futures for district leaders and ensure students nationwide are not only prepared for real life in the real world but can succeed and thrive.”

Goffney earned her Doctor of Education, Master of Education, and Bachelor of Arts from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
