Announces 2025 Women in School Leadership Award Winners

Alexandria, Va. – March 7, 2025 - As part of a long-standing tradition to create more pathways for women who wish to enter the field of education administration, AASA, , is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Women in School Leadership Awards.
The awards, sponsored by Horace Mann and AASA, pay tribute to the talent, creativity and vision of outstanding women educational administrators in the nation’s public schools. Today’s announcement was made at AASA’s National Conference on Education in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The winners for each category are:
Central Office/ Principal Category
- Alicen Gaytley, Director of Teaching and Learning, Quincy School District (Wash.)
Superintendent Category
- Wendy Birhanzel, Superintendent, Harrison School District 2 (Colo.)
They have a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to student success, staff development, and innovation in education.

Award finalists were announced November 18, 2024 and evaluated on their leadership in meeting the learning needs of students, personal and organizational communication strength, constant professional improvement of knowledge and skills and active community involvement.
