Shari Camhi

Superintendent and president, 2022-23, Baldwin Union Free School District (N.Y.)

Dr. Shari L. Camhi is the Superintendent of Schools for the Baldwin Union Free School District, where she has successfully encouraged innovation and creativity in K-12 education. She possesses over 30 years of experience working in school districts in New York State and consulting in rural, suburban and urban schools across the country.

Dr. Camhi has not followed the conventional path in education, having worked in private industry as a manager of training and development in the field of technology, a visiting “expert” in educational technology overseas, adjunct professor, technology director, assistant superintendent, and currently, superintendent of schools. Since joining Baldwin School District, located in a middle-class community on Long Island, the graduation rate has climbed to 99%, ranking the high school among U.S. News & World Report’s annual list Best High Schools and achieving “New York State Recognition School” by the State Education Department as well as the “College Success Award” by GreatSchools.

In addition to her role as superintendent and with AASA, Dr. Camhi currently serves on the National Assessment Governing. Board and has been a member of the American Association of Community College (AACC)’s Commission for College Readiness, WNET Business Advisory Council, the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) K-12 Innovation Advisory Council, Cradle of Aviation Museum & Education Center Board of Directors, and chair/vice-chair of the Educational Telecommunications Service Committee for the public television station, WLIW. She served as co-chair for the Superintendent/College Presidents Partnership for the Long Island Regional Advisory Council on Higher Education (LIRACHE) and an active participant in the Long Island Consortium for Excellence and Equity (LICEE), which partners with the University of Pennsylvania to advocate for practices that provide equity for all learners.
